Special Offer - IT Support for as little as €10 per month!
As mentioned on the front page there is indeed some free software to be obtained legally.
Early on in it's development it wasn't something that really competed with offerings such as Microsoft's Office or Adobe's Photoshop.
However nowadays the open source alternatives are posing a real challenge and are certainly good enough for small business uses or for home users.
Open office for example can handle 90%+ that Microsoft office can.
Certainly word and excel are quite comparable to the open office versions.
When it comes to top end software for serious business then the expensive software such as Adobe Illustrator for print business is still the best option.
However, if you are a small business producing simple websites locally then it's possible to get away with using Inkscape and GIMP for graphical design.
It doesn't end there, there's CRM software, hotel management, the list goes on!
Many of you may have heard of linux.
The trouble is, it's scary! Many are afraid of the lack of support (I should say low priced and commonly available fast support).
However, if you are after a cheap server with unlimited licenses that can have legendary uptimes and rock solid security then this is the only way to go.
I first began work on linux servers around a decade ago, so I have had plenty of time to learn the ropes. I can pass on this useful knowledge and provide support for Cork SME's who are interested in migrating or perhaps setting up a new server on this fantastic platform.
Nowadays it is possible to have open source gateways/firewalls/antivirus/email/proxy all rolled into one machine for your entire LAN or perhaps even run multiple virutal machines to make the best use of new hardware.
